UniFi Protect AI Key and AI Port

Dedicated AI devices can add processing to supported Protect workflows. AI Key adds a computer-vision layer to incoming smart detections; AI Port has a different role.

Buyer check: Do not assume the two appliances are interchangeable. Verify camera compatibility, resolution/channel limits and which functions need each device.

Official product or support documentation

Test this platform in your environment

List which task requires AI Key or AI Port, then prove compatibility and channel capacity with the intended camera mix.

Architecture: Protect + selected AI device. Confirm processing location, outage behavior, supported cameras and the licenses included in the proposal. Video-stream compatibility alone does not establish metadata or event compatibility.

Before selecting a configuration

Record missed events, nuisance alerts and operator review time during the pilot. Get written confirmation of account ownership, renewal costs, export options, replacement parts and alternative service providers. Use the purchasing workbook for the full acceptance checklist.

Compare documented feature coverage or explore industry applications.

Source-based reference; independent testing and universal availability are not claimed. Suggest a correction with current manufacturer documentation.

UniFi Protect hardware ecosystem and feature entitlement

For Ubiquiti UniFi Protect, examine which cameras and console/recording devices support the intended features and how those features vary by hardware generation. Do not assume universal support for every third-party camera, AI search function or license-free integration. Test the intended person, vehicle or detection scenario with actual site lighting and mounting geometry.

Demonstration and handover questions

Record console storage calculations, user roles, remote access dependencies, local playback and update process. Verify what happens during lost internet, recorder or console power, and define whether the chosen Protect system meets the owner’s retention and export needs.

Record these decisions

For this specific platform, keep the supported model and software versions, a written use case, sample results from the owner’s environment, data-flow diagram, retention policy, costs, maintenance owner and any unresolved limitations. This is a reference for evaluating claims—not a certification, endorsement or guarantee of the supplier’s product.
